A Simple Family Recipe for the Mornings That Matter
Some of the smallest traditions become part of a family’s story. In our family, certain recipes have become part of the way we celebrate love. This simple breakfast casserole is one of those recipes for us — warm, familiar, and filled with the quiet joy that comes from feeding the people you love year after year.
Over time, I have played with this recipe, adding things like an egg, spinach, or kale, and there was even a season when I changed its shape and presentation. But in the end, this version is the one that always seems to be most loved and most requested. Sometimes the simplest dishes are the ones that truly stay with us.

The Sausage Casserole
1 pound spicy sausage
16 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded (pepper jack if you like it spicy)
1 can of crescent rolls
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Cook the sausage in a skillet until fully done, then drain.
In an 8×8 oven-safe baking dish, press half of the crescent roll dough evenly across the bottom.
Layer the cooked sausage over the dough, then add the cheddar cheese.
Top with the remaining crescent roll dough, spreading it gently across the top.
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until golden brown.
Serve warm with eggs and/or a light side salad.
